Take the ten screws out, swap pickguards, put the screws back in. All the electrics are on the seperate metal plate.

I'm not a big pedal user, but for a good pedal you can't go wrong with a good Boss Chorus - normal or for bass they sound great!

it depends what kind of effects you want. Can't go wrong with a multi-effects pedal from a well know company like Yamaha or Peavey I guess.

You can try raising the strings up a bit, if that does not work, try adjusting the neck (best done at a shop, unless you know what to do) and finally one or both of the pick ups may be bad and need replaced.

Actually sometimes you can fix this with new strings, but that is not too often the case.

If it is something like a Johnson, Harmony, etc, it may be imherent in the guitar.

Try those things in that order.

Hope this helps.

Either the action is too low or the neck is warped. First is easily fixed (raise the string height), second is not so easy (neck has to be adjusted by a technician).

both I play a fender and right now I have blue steels on and the sound sounds very different from the 2 other strings I had on which were fender's and DR red devils. the strings really sound different if you use flat bounds which are basically the strings that are used on the giant double bass things so yah strings and bass do affect the sound

Yes they will work. However, if you ever use different string gauges, you should check your intonation (make sure the 12th fret is right when your open string is right).
And both. The strings and the types of pickups you have will define your sound.

In response to Robert, everything you said is true (amps can change your sound, and changing your amp setting can also change your sound... I recommend putting the bass and trebble up and the mid-range down). However, the strings do change the sound of your instrument. On my bass I use D'Addario strings, and I love them. Along with Rotosounds they are probably the best strings.

Also, every four to six months, I recommend changing your strings so they don't sound too dull. When your done playing you should wipe your bass off with a cloth to get off dirt and every couple weeks wipe it down with a multi-surface cleaner that can clean metal and wood.
