How can I fix my Yamaha bass guitar? It makes a weird rattling sound when you strum.?
I've tried adjusting the string retainer but I still have problems. Can somebody help me out? Oh and it's not the tuning. And also the rattling sounds like the string is loose but it is very tight. And also I bought this from a pawn shop.

Either the action is too low or the neck is warped. First is easily fixed (raise the string height), second is not so easy (neck has to be adjusted by a technician).

You can try raising the strings up a bit, if that does not work, try adjusting the neck (best done at a shop, unless you know what to do) and finally one or both of the pick ups may be bad and need replaced.
Actually sometimes you can fix this with new strings, but that is not too often the case.
If it is something like a Johnson, Harmony, etc, it may be imherent in the guitar.
Try those things in that order.
Hope this helps.
