A Yamaha or an Epiphone electric bass guitar?

My dad wants to get a yamaha bass instead of an epiphone sg bass, because the yamaha is cheaper. Which one is the better guitar?

• He should go with whichever one feels most comfortable in his hands. They're both well-made instruments. Yamahas tend to sound a little more lively and punchy than Epiphones, which is why a lot of jazz players prefer them. I associate the Epiphone bass sound with classic rock of the '70s, since it's a flatter, more thuddy tone. But they're both solid instruments. It's just a matter of figuring out which one fits his playing style and feels natural to him.
